Learn Development at Frontend Masters. That is, below the visible area of the browser window.
So in order to access those menu items down below, you need to scroll your browser window. For those of us with scroll wheels of some kind on our mice mouses? For those without, those lower menu items are totally inaccessible, because to use the browser scrollbar means mousing off the menu and probably having it close.
I first saw this idea in effect on the Media Temple account center page. This can be a very long list. Media Temple had implemented a technique where as you scroll down, the menu actually moved in an accelerated fashion. Here an attempt at visualizing the idea:. I commented it, so it should be fairly easy to follow. You can download the code anyway, so take a peak there.
Frontend Masters is the best place to get it. Amazing idea as usual man…. Nice idea. Also, the speed is too fast and it may be hard for people to actually click on the good link as moving the mouse a bit makes the menu move a lot. Great job. I agree. I would prefer a multi column submenu. That way one could see all links at once. Look at the german otto catalogue for example. I must agree. But the idea is nice and could be usefull for other parts of a site, like portfolio….
Very nice trick!Always forever lyrics
Really nice! I know what you mean, but the speed is directly correlated to the height of the submenu. Meybe, we can consider to add two items bottom and header, respectively and the scroll begin only when the pointer is upon one of them like the arrows in the standards scroll-bars, but with an hover action.
Thankfully really long dropdowns are rare, well at least I have never come across one when designing a site anyway, and if there was the possibility I would always find a way around it. Im really not a fan of drop down menus, especially for navigation purposes.
The idea behind the Domain names being shown would of been a good use of it though. Nice tutorial anyway, if there is ever a customer who wants a dreaded below fold drop down il be sure to look up this code!
Thanks for this Chris! Finally a solution to solve long dropdown menus. Just an idea, but maybe an arrow pointing downwards floating at the bottom of the dropdown to indicate to the user that there are still more items will add another fine touch to it. Just my 2 cents I read article in GReader, went straight to demo page, wanted to go back to article, but there is no back link.
Maybe the maxHeight can be set dynamicly based on the height of the window and the position within the window at which the dropdown starts. For the rest, it looks and works nice. If the there is then still not enough room there could be a scrollbar.Problem i have is that there are items in the Dropdown i cant see after Transaction History.
How do i fix this.Audi adblue delete
I have seen the Webflow website in mobile and it works perfectly. How do i get it to be like that. Here you go.
Thanks DFinkI have been to that post. My problem now is the Dropdown in the Nav menu.
I have tried setting the height of the Dropdown too to different values vh, 50vh. Even though the page in the background scrolls. Then I set it to 45vh, which works but the items only show if I scroll the dropdown rather than the nav menu. Doing that does not feel like the natural interaction.
Someone else using the app might not find it user friendly. DFinkif you are referring to the div that contains both the image and dropdown, then yes I tried it by setting the overflow to auto, but that did not work.
I have set the overflow of the dropdown to auto and height to 45vh currently thats the height that makes the dropdown scrollable in the nav menu. I tried what you suggested by setting the overflow of the containing div to auto and also giving it a height. No luck. You wrapped your dropdown in a div which will cause weird things to happen like the current double scrollbars because it recognizes that div as a separate element to scroll.
You should get rid of that extra div and have the dropdown in the main navbar which should trigger the scrollbars when opened or whenever the window is small enough. I am having the same issue and have tried changing overflow options on all other elements around the navbar with no luck.
Update It has not to do with nested additional divs. Since it is nested inside the fixed Navbar it seems to ignore any scroll attributes nested inside.E body mopar parts
As a solution i created an additional navbar as:. Streaming live at 10am PST Join the live chatroom. Scrollable nav and dropdown menu in mobile Design Help. Beez April 27,pm 1. Hi, my drop down menu on my mobile phone does not scroll down fully. DFink May 1,am 2.

My mouse pointer changes to a pointer with a what looks a small vertical scroll bar. Going into mouse properties and changing it back only lasts for a few minutes before it changes again. While in this changed mode I can not dynamically size windows and it is difficult to properly point. Hi Richard, The mouse pointer issue you're experiencing might be due to a variety of reasons.
Dropdown menu with vertical scrollbar
One of which is due to recent changes made on your PC. That being said, what were the recent changes made before this started to happen? What is the exact image of the mouse pointer you're seeing? Is it the same mouse pointer when trying to adjust a window size downward or upward?
In the meantime, let's run the Hardware and Devices Troubleshooter to find and repair problems with your devices and hardware.
Did this solve your problem? Yes No. Sorry this didn't help. The only change I had made was to install Open Office. I just uninstalled it and the issue remains after a restart.
The pointer looks like the 5th and 6th pointers in the pointer list from the Mouse Settings. This problem has occurred with two wireless mice and the finger pad. I do not think is a hardware driver problem.
I had to search for Troubleshooting as it did not show up anywhere that I could find on the control panel. I do not think this is a hardware problem.
I am currently using without a mouse, just the pad, and the pointer has the same problem. Not sure, but this may have started after the latest Windows update. I had used the laptop extensively prior to that without an issue. Running the Hardware and Devices troubleshooter doesn't only mean that we're fixing only from the hardware. This can also isolate the issue you're experiencing, so I suggest you run it.
An outdated driver may lead into a performance issue.

I recently implemented it in the app I wrote for Chrome, Sticky Notes. I know, I know. Really original name. Anyhoo, I noticed a problem. If you had a lot of notes, this would happen:. Man, look at that. That sucker goes on forever.Angular : Dropdown Closes on ngx-perfect-scrollbar Scroll Click
So how do you get to the items below the fold? So, the first thing I did was give it a max-height. I think px is a nice size, if it matters. So that led to the next problem…. Oh yeah, overflow. Okay fine, I know how to fix that. Just give it an overflow: hidden or in my case, this works nicely:.
Do you see it? It has scrollbars now, sure and nice CSS customized scrollbars, thanks to Webkitbut the little bubble arrow is gone. But they have a certain asthetic, and I like it. Someone else wrote an alternative dropdown plugin for jQuery, called jQuery Bootstrap-style Dropdowns. The pseudoelements on the list item might be hidden, but I could make new ones and put them on the parent link.
So I wrote these styles:. The positioning on the parent link is just to set it up for showing the little arrow bubble. On to the important stuff:. These are nearly identical to the pseudoelements defined for the list element, just adjusted for positioning along the bottom instead of the top. The last thing, then, is to make sure they appear when the list appears:.
The end result, then, is this: a scrollable, max-heighted it is too a word, I just made it up dropdown menu with the bubble arrows intact. Nice work.
Dropdownlist vertical scrollbar in asp.net
One question, how did you manage to make the scrollbars look that nice? I can see some jQuery plugins around; however, that seems to collide Bootstrap code when I try to aplly them to my Bootstrap dropdowns.
I used Webkit-specific scrollbar CSS. Do you have any idea of how to apply this to a sub menu as your current solution only works for a main menu with no sub menus? Yes, that will work for children.Bootstrap smooth scroll is an animated movement from a trigger — such as button, link or any other clickable element — to another place of the same page. To achieve a Smooth Scroll effect, add the class.

Any simple way to add a scrolling action to a drop-down list? The file picker widget is also known not to be stylable at all. Much appreciated. Can you suggest what scroll code might go with that code show on that page? This first part is correct, the browser has full control of the scrollbar.
There are no scroll rules that you can style in. The hacky way I mentioned in your other thread, wraps a div around the select element and hides the default dropdown button by layering over it with a bg image. It only alters the dropdown button and does nothing in regards to the scrollbar. This topic was automatically closed 91 days after the last reply.
